Eugene "Jeff" Jeffers married Gail Nease on June 25, 1960. In 1968 they came to Liberty County so Jeff could work for Interstate Paper (while Gail drove a school bus for Liberty County). When Jeff was laid off in 1973, he saw some crab traps in the yard and decided to give crabbing a try. Jeff's Crab House was born. At the time, he sold crab for $.25 per pound. After a short time, Jeff (now known as "Crab Man" by the local community) was called back to work by Interstate and Gail became one of the first two teacher's aids hired by Liberty County. They continued to run the crab business in their spare time. After 37 years at Interstate, Jeff retired in 2006 and now crabs full-time. Gail, who has survived four different types of cancer, continues to work with her husband as part of Jeff's Crab House. She also runs her own successful catering business, "Classic Catering." Jeff's son, Hugh Gene (known as "Son"), started working with his dad when he was 12. Now 41, Son is still a vital part of Jeff's Crab House. Jeff's also employes people who are down on their luck in the community.

Today, Jeff's runs 3 to 4 boats from the end of March through December until, in Crab Man terms, the crab leave for the winter. He currently serves commercial accounts and sells to individuals. For more information, call 912-884-2707 or e-mail us at crabman@jeffscrabhouse.com

Gail and Jeff have 3 children. Pamela Jeffers Walker (a school teacher - and former Miss Hinesville), Tonya Jeffers Lyle (a partner in her husband's family restaurant business and owner of a home cleaning service), and Hugh Gene Jeffers (who works with Jeff as a crabber for Jeff's Crab House).
